The Indian government has announced that it will procure two lakh tonnes of onions from farmers in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh in order to address concerns over a potential shortage. The government will offer a "highest ever rate" for the onions and will purchase them through government cooperatives NAFED and NCCF.
