Telecom Bill 2023 tabled in Lok Sabha

The new telecom bill, known as the Telecom Bill 2023, was introduced in Lok Sabha by Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. The bill allows the government to temporarily take control of telecom services in the interest of national security. It proposes to stop transmission and intercept messages during public emergencies or in the interest of public safety. The bill also includes provisions for the suspension or prohibition of specific telecommunication equipment and services from certain countries or individuals. Additionally, it ensures that press messages from accredited correspondents will not be intercepted or detained, unless prohibited under applicable rules.
